Nurturing, loving, and caring are the words often used to describe the lower school community at PCA. Teachers work closely with parents to create an atmosphere where student hearts and minds will flourish inside and beyond the classroom walls.

PCA’s Kindergarten through 5th grade program of study focuses on two primary goals: to build a foundation of basic skills in each of our students and to create a lifelong love of learning in the hearts of our students.  We focus on the core subjects –- reading / phonics, writing, math, history, science, and Bible -- and supplement with art, music, and physical education classes each week.

Our kindergarten is a half-day program that uses SRA's Imagine It! as the phonics base to teach reading. Our math curriculum is designed by Saxon and supplemented with drills and hands-on activities.

First- and second-grade students continue to use Imagine It! reading materials along with Shurley Grammar and literature books chosen from our reading lists. Because we believe grammar is crucial to good writing and speaking skills, students begin the Shurley Grammar program in first grade. Our students learn the parts of speech by utilizing fun chants and rhymes. By the end of first grade, students are able to identify nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, and more!

Our Book Buddies program links fourth and fifth grade students with kindergarten and first graders as they read together and develop friendships.

Our Grandparent's Day, Fine Arts Week, Thanksgiving Celebration, Spirit Week, Field Day, and other PCA events provide fun, fellowship, and creative learning opportunities for students and families.
