Visual arts students are actively engaged in creating and exhibiting artwork under the direction of dedicated faculty art experts.
The art faculty is fully committed to helping all students discover the joy of creative expression, regardless of their perceived ability or initial confidence. Several levels of classes are offered within our art department, allowing students the opportunity to maximize their experience in areas of special interest. To help students fully experience the process of communicating through art, the school provides numerous venues for display of work, from large-scale competitions each year to professional quality exhibits of framed art in the school office. PCA students enter artwork in the Coastal Carolina Fair Youth Art Competition, the North Charleston Arts Festival Youth Fine Arts Competition, and on a national level in the Southeastern Wildlife Expo.
Lower School Art (Grades 1-4)

Techniques include but are not limited to drawing, painting, printmaking, textiles, and 3-D construction. Students are exposed to basic art terminology including the principles of design and elements of art, master artists, global cultures, and personal expression. Each grade does the same sequence of study but with projects specific to grade
Middle School Art
Our program is designed to show students how God's glory and the beauty of His creation can be revealed through art. Students will learn to use and recognize the principles of design and elements of art. They will use many different mediums and learn how they can bring different results to the same subject. Artists from the past and present will be introduced and students will be able to recognize their work. We coordinate with other middle school teachers to tie in art with their curriculum when appropriate.
High School Art 1 & 2
In Art 1, we will study God’s Creation from landscapes and nature to human figures, patterns
In Art 2, students have the opportunity to build a personalized portfolio based on the AP Studio Art standards. This is a more individualized approach to art, allowing the artist to focus on certain media and subject matter as well as their needed areas of improvement. Art 2 students must be focused, responsible self-starters, well versed in the elements of art and principles of design. Projects will be individualized for each student.
