Last year 6th, now 7th grader, Aidan Cox won the Patriot's Pen Essay Contest, put on by the Isle of Palms Veterans of Foreign Affairs (VFW). Cox’s essay was based on the topic "What Is Patriotism to Me?" where he wrote about the importance of freedom and expression of religion.

“Students discussed the need to continue to strive for a "more perfect union," said Dr. Stark, “and to ensure that we live up to the fundamental American belief that ‘all men are created equal,’ which of course is rooted in a biblical worldview, by working for the good of our neighbors and our community.”

Cox’s essay, along with another classmate, won $50 cash and had their entries moved up to district level where Aidan’s essay placed third.

“I was very surprised and happy!” Cox said after he received his award and prize at last week's chapel. He also added that he had no idea he had won at the district level until the day of the award presentation.

Congratulations Aidan!
