PCA Representatives Selected For Prestigious Palmetto Boys & Girls State
PCA is proud to announce this year's representatives selected for Palmetto Boys & Girls State. Sophie Baumgardner, Lauren Pabst, Will Perkins and Joseph Terry were selected through an application and interview process and will be representing PCA at the statewide programs June 9-15. These programs are a unique way for young men and women to learn about the American system of government and politics by participating in a mock governmental system and leadership training. In fact, many of our state’s political, business, and community leaders attended Boys & Girls State.
Students will have an opportunity to prepare speeches, compose party platforms, debate current issues, and vote for elected offices. Participants also have the opportunity to hear from some of South Carolina’s top leaders.
Academic Counselor Emily Faile explains the significance of being chosen as a representative for this nationally recognized program:
"The SC Boys and Girls State Programs are designed to empower and inspire young men and women to become active and informed citizens, while fostering friendships, creating lasting memories, and providing valuable educational and networking opportunities. These programs feature guest speakers, elected officials, and community leaders who share their experiences and insights in civic engagement to educate this generation on the benefits of service. Schools our size within the state each receive one slot each for Boys/Girls State and there is both an application and interview process. As is the case this year, our students interviewed so well, additional slots were given to our school based on the caliber of our candidates."
