Varsity Boys Basketball Team Competing In State Playoffs

The PCA Varsity Boys defeated Oakbrook Prep in the first round of the SCISA playoffs on Saturday. In a back and forth game which featured a 12 point lead by PCA and a 7 point lead by Oakbrook, the Eagles tied the game with 3 seconds left. During the overtime period, PCA played with renewed energy and finished with a 73-69 win. They will be taking on Bethesda Day in the second round of the tournament tonight at 5 pm at Wilson Hall in Sumter. The winner will play in the semi-finals Thursday night at the Sumter Civic Center.

Peyton Emerson Wins Prestigious Award From SCISA

Peyton Emerson was awarded the Bill Simpson Award by Mr. Larry Watt, the SCISA Executive Director, at the Senior Awards Day last Friday. The Bill Simpson Award is the highest award presented to an individual student-athlete in the South Carolina Independent School Association. The Award is presented annually to a graduating male and female student-athlete in memory of Mr. Bill Simpson. Mr. Simpson served the South Carolina Independent School Association for seven years as the Athletic Secretary. Mr. Simpson, an educator first and foremost, laid much of the ground-work for an association built upon athletic and academic success. Throughout his career as a teacher, coach, official and administrator, he emphasized the importance of academic achievement. Qualifications for this award include lettering in a minimum of two varsity sports during high school, having a proven record of student leadership, being active in school clubs and organizations while having a record of outstanding academic achievement and making worthwhile contributions as a student-athlete. While others have been nominated in the past, Peyton is the first person from PCA to be awarded this prestigious honor. Way to go Peyton!
