Corn Mazes & Pumpkins: Learning Outside The Classroom

main image

Our kindergarten students recently spent the day at West Farm Corn Maze in Moncks Corner. They participated in fun fall activities such as a corn maze and a hay ride pulled around the farm by a huge tractor. They fed farm animals that included goats, pigs, cows and sheep. The kids were all smiles as they were able to pick out their own pumpkin to decorate with stickers and bring home. They were fascinated to learn about the life cycle of pumpkin plants. Kindergarten students finished the day with a picnic lunch and lots of play time in the corn pit and a maze made out of hay. The day was filled with all kinds of great learning activities outside of the classroom!

First Grade Is Off To The Farm!

Fall. A time for apples, changing leaf colors and the first grade's annual field trip to the pumpkin patch! This year, the four first grade classes, with their teachers and a slew of parent chaperones, made their way to historic Legare Farms. Located on Johns Island, this 300 acre farm has been a PCA favorite for years.

Students started off their visit with a lesson about the growth process of pumpkins before getting to pick their own from a small pumpkin patch! After that they were off to learn about, and pet, various farm animals, such as pigs and cows before getting on a hay ride that took them into a field full of cows that they got to feed! To end their trip, students had a picnic lunch and a little playtime before heading back to school! It was a great day of discovering the fascinating details of a working farm!
