Liz grew up in the Lowcountry and graduated from Wake Forest University, where she received her degree in Elementary Education. She was a minor in Studio Art, taking classes in various disciplines and spending a semester abroad at art school in Florence, Italy. Liz spent her first years of teaching in Arlington, VA as a first grade teacher and assistant reading specialist, while continuing to take classes for fun at art schools in the DC area. After she and her husband, Yates, returned to Mount Pleasant in 2012, she used her skills in education to homeschool her sons, Solomon and Judah, during their preschool years. The Lord then called the whole family to PCA in 2021, and they are thrilled to be both teaching and learning in an environment that is focused on the wonder and beauty of Christ! Teaching art has been a true source of joy, especially as Liz gets to experience students’ artistic journey from their earliest grade school years (K-4th) to the end (9th-12th). She has continued to learn and grow in her teaching practice by becoming certified in AP Art and Design and is grateful for the opportunities that God gives her to help students of all ages engage in their own creativity as image bearers of Christ!
