The Sound Of Music!
After over a year of silence, the PCA High School Choir once again lifted their voices together in song! On Thursday, May 6, family and friends of the choir students were invited to the Choir’s Spring Concert and Coffeehouse.
The Choir Concert began with the powerful hit, “Masquerade” from Phantom of the Opera, an obvious nod and wink to our masked lives due to Covid guidelines. Another concert favorite, “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us” was accompanied by fourth grade teacher, Katie Hyman, on the cello. The High School Choir men’s section were featured on Beach Boy’s favorite, “God Only Knows,“ and the ladies of the Choir performed the challenging a capella choral selection, “Changes.”
“The highlight of the spring concert is always our intentional spotlight on our fabulous seniors,” said director Kathy Thames. “Every senior had a specific part in the evening and most of them performed various solos. I’m so thankful for our seniors’ musical talents, but also for their leadership within the Choir throughout the year. I am going to miss them all so much.”
The Coffeehouse portion of the evening did not disappoint with a duet by Aly Godwin and AnnaJaye Walters, featuring their bass and guitar skills. Olivia Horne gave a beautiful performance of “The Other Side”, while Madison Broach and Will Wheeler charmed the audience with the Sinatra classic, “Something Stupid”. Other solos included AnnaJaye Walter’s mesmerizing arrangement of “Fly Me to the Moon” and the beautiful, lyrical performance of “La Vie en Rose” by Olivia Martin. Other amazing selections included Hannah ZumBrunnen’s “Count on Me” as well as the graceful performance by dancer, Grace Fauteux.
The evening concluded with the Choir’s final performance of “Seasons of Love”, which states so beautifully, “It’s time now to sing out though the story never ends. Let’s celebrate, remember a year in the life of friends. Remember the love.” This is exactly what the High School Choir has demonstrated in one of the most challenging years for PCA’s performing arts. They have continued to sing, while masked, for their love of God, music and for each other. Thank you PCA High School Choir and Kathy Thames for keeping music alive at PCA!
