Apples For Atkinson's Kindergarten Class

Fall is the season for changing leaves, pumpkins, and apples! Last week Caroline Atkinson's kindergarten class took learning about apples to a fun new level.

First lesson, taste testing. "We tested all three colors of apples," said Atkinson. "We predicted which one we would like before we tested them [by coloring] in a happy face or sad face based on [what we thought]. After, we decided which was our favorite and compared it to our predictions. Lots of friends predicted they would like red the best but ended up liking yellow!"

That was just the beginning of the apple-themed week. Other activities included drawing a diagram of an apple, testing to see if apples float or sink, using adjectives to describe apples, talking about Johnny Appleseed and making Johnny Appleseed hats, and reading, "Ten Apples On Top".

The apple filled week was brought to a close with, what else? Applesauce. Mrs. Atkinson added the ingredients to a crockpot before inviting each student to see what the apples looked like before turning into the final product.

Four hours and a day later, the result was delicious! Eating their applesauce for snack Friday morning the class unanimously agreed that it "was really good!"

Kindergarten sure knows how to welcome in the fall season!

PCA Volleyball Makes School History!

The Varsity Volleyball team went to the Baron Bash tournament in Sumter on Saturday and beat Sumter High School (AAAAA) and Heathwood Hall (AAA) to advance to the Championship game against Lee Academy (AA). PCA ended up winning the Championship game and being the first PCA Volleyball team to win this tournament in School History!  Katelyn Howard and Charlee Olson were named All Tournament Players and the team moved to 13-0.

More firsts for this team is that they are now ranked #1 in the State for AA Volleyball. "I am just so proud of this team.  Being undefeated and ranked #1 is nice, but I am more excited to see these girls having fun and playing some amazing volleyball," says Coach Fort.

PCA Volleyball had one of its busiest weeks by also beating two conference opponents, Orangeburg Prep and Northside Christian. "Northside Christian is always a tough match because it is an emotion-filled game. I was so impressed with the character and attitude of both of our teams to not get caught up in that," says Coach Fort. "This week we are playing two more conference games and our goal is to stay laser-focused on each game, which is easier said than done when you are 13-0."
