Preschool Press: Firefighters Teach Fire Safety

main image

All the preschool classes enjoyed a exciting visit from the Mount Pleasant Fire Department to learn all about fire safety! The firemen showed us the equipment they use and explained the purpose of wearing their uniform and gear. The firemen also talked about the importance of:

  • Developing a home fire escape plan for your family;
  • Making sure you have a working smoke detector in your home; and
  • Knowing the importance of staying away from things that are hot to avoid burns.

All the children enjoyed climbing through the fire truck to see how the vehicle looks on the inside! To thank the firefighters for their service to the community, we collected snacks and drinks for the fire station. Thank you to the local Fire Department for their visit to PCA Preschool to make sure we all stay safe!

Praying Hands: A PCA Preschool Tradition!

main image

Over the years, our preschool students have made precious gifts for their parents and extended family members. Twenty-one years ago we began a special art project with our students that has become a PCA Preschool tradition. Preschool Director Sharon Basha has continued this great tradition that originated from Cindy Campbell (former Preschool Director) with the help of Amy Campbell and Tracy Ciali.

Each student receives assistance in creating a mold of his or her folded hands in prayer. Dental Alginate is used to make that mold. Then a form of plaster of paris is poured into each mold for 24 hours. Each set of hands goes through a process of cleaning, drying and painting before they are sent home. Each set of these sweet hands requires about 2 hours to complete! The staff and students work hard each year to make this a super special gift for the parents that they will cherish for a lifetime. It requires a lot of time and hard work after the normal school day, but it is well worth it when we see students present the praying hands to their parents. This is not only a keepsake of their child's tiny hands but a symbol of the successful completion of preschool. Our hope and desire is that it will be a continual reminder to pray for their child and others daily!
