American Heritage Girls Spend a Night with the Sharks

main image

Believe it or not, you can sleep with the Sharks at Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtle Beach! American Heritage Girl troop members and moms had the entire aquarium to themselves Friday evening.. enjoying a dive show, a scavenger hunt and behind the scenes tour. That evening girls and moms slept in the shark tunnel looking up at sharks swimming and the rare sighting of a 60-year-old sea turtle named Gabby. On Saturday morning, many girls were able to enter the stingray tank and enjoyed learning about and interacting with the rays! It was quite the adventure and the girls can't wait to return next year when the penguins arrive at the aquarium!

2nd Graders Discover the Meaning of the Passover Seder

Mrs. Welch's second grade students feasted Friday morning on Passover Seder plates. Wait, you say - isn't it the wrong time of year for that? You're correct it is, but it is never the wrong time of year to learn and experience something new!

The students spent the week studying the ten plagues of Egypt and the meaning of the Passover Seder.

The Passover Seder plate is a plate containing symbolic foods used during the Passover Seder. Each of the six items arranged on the plate has special significance to the retelling of the story of the Exodus from Egypt. The children bravely sampled all of the items which included: horseradish, apples and raisins, parsley, salted water, grape juice and matzo bread. Mrs. Welch brilliantly and emotionally explained the meaning of each item on the plate and how it relates to the bondage and slavery of the Israelites and then the freedom only received from God.
